|| Raihan Ahmed, Mymensingh Bureau: The Shyamganj Highway Police Station, under the Mymensingh Highway Region, has stepped up efforts to curb illegal vehicles, ease traffic congestion, prevent road accidents, and combat drug trafficking along the strategically important Mymensingh–Netrokona highway.The campaign is being led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Aminul Islam, who, according to police sources, has prioritized road safety and law enforcement since assuming charge of the station.The Shyamganj Highway Police Station oversees one of the busiest sections of the Mymensingh–Netrokona highway, a key transport corridor connecting Netrokona with Mymensingh and the capital, Dhaka. Passenger buses, freight trucks, and other commercial vehicles regularly use this route, making it a vital artery for regional transportation.Police officials say the highway is also vulnerable to attempts by drug traffickers to transport illegal narcotics from the border district of Netrokona to Mymensingh and other parts of the country. To counter this, highway police have intensified surveillance, vehicle inspections, and enforcement operations along the route.Speaking to reporters, OC Mohammad Aminul Islam said the police are taking legal action against illegal vehicles under the Road Transport Act while maintaining a strong presence on the highway to reduce accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow."We are regularly filing cases against vehicles operating in violation of the law. Our officers remain vigilant to prevent road accidents and ensure the safe movement of commuters. At the same time, we are continuing operations to recover illegal narcotics and prevent drug trafficking," he said.He added that public awareness and compliance with traffic regulations are essential to improving road safety, stressing that the highway police remain committed to maintaining order and protecting motorists. Officials believe sustained enforcement, coupled with public cooperation, will further strengthen road safety and help reduce traffic-related violations and criminal activities along the busy highway.
