Tanju Ahmed, Raipur (Lakshmipur): A tragic incident occurred in Lakshmipur, Bangladesh, where 47 goats died due to suffocation while being transported in a passenger bus's luggage compartment from Lalmonirhat. The bus, operated by Anindya Paribahan, was carrying the goats to Lakshmipur.The incident happened on Friday, March 27, 2026, when the goats were packed tightly in the bus's lower compartment, along with 8 more goats from a Noakhali trader. The lack of ventilation and intense heat led to the deaths of all 47 goats.The Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Executive Officer, Kathowaypru Marma, imposed a fine of 10,000 taka on the bus supervisor, Abul Hashem, and the goat trader, Md. Faruk, for cruel treatment of animals.Faruk claimed losses of around 1 million taka and blamed the driver and supervisor's negligence for the incident. Hashem, however, stated that the goats were normal during transit and were found dead only when unloaded at Noakhali Chowrasta.The Veterinary Surgeon, Sohel Rana, said the fine was imposed for animal cruelty, and measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The dead goats will be buried.
