|| Online Desk: At least six people were killed and 12 others injured after gas cylinders exploded and triggered a fire in covered vans parked inside the premises of S. Suhi Industrial Park Limited under Pretty Group at Jamgora in Ashulia, Savar, on Sunday evening.Five of the bodies were recovered from covered vans carrying LPG cylinders, while another victim was killed at a nearby tailoring shop, officials said.Deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence's Dhaka Zone-4 Hafizur Rahman said five of the victims were burned beyond recognition and their identities could not immediately be established.'The bodies were recovered from the covered vans carrying LPG cylinders,' Hafizur said.The sixth victim, identified as Zainab Begum, 55, was killed after an explosion sent a cylinder and debris through the tin roof of her daughter's tailoring shop opposite the factory. Zainab, wife of Mohammad Ali, was from Ishorkandi area of Kashimpur in Gazipur.Zainab's daughter, Sanjida Akter, said Zainab had come to visit her and was standing inside the shop when a cylinder struck her head after breaking through the roof.Police recovered Zainab's body from the shop at about 10:00pm and took it to Ashulia police station for legal procedures.Earlier, the explosion occurred at about 6:45pm while LPG cylinders were being unloaded from a covered van at the premises of S. Suhi Industrial Park Ltd under Pretty Group in Jamgora.The blast triggered a fire that spread to at least five cylinder-carrying vans parked nearby, witnesses said.Arif Hossain, a supervisor in the quality control section of the finishing department at FNF Garment factory in the industrial park, said he suddenly heard the sound of gas leaking as work was nearing the end of the day.'A short while later, there was a huge explosion and the fire spread,' he said, adding that the intense blast shattered glass windows at the factory.Four Fire Service and Civil Defence units, two each from DEPZ Fire Station and Zirabo Modern Fire Station, worked to contain the blaze.The fire was brought under control at about 8:00pm and completely extinguished by around 10:00pm, while rescue operations ended at 11:42pm, the Fire Service said.Md Harun ur Rashid, manager of Ashulia Women and Children Hospital, said at least 26 injured people had been brought to the hospital, with three critically injured patients referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.Industrial Police-1 superintendent Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan said rescuers initially faced difficulties entering the factory because of the intensity of the fire and heavy traffic congestion in the area.Ashulia police station officer-in-charge Tarikul Islam said authorities were assessing the scene to determine the exact cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage.
