|| Patuakhali Correspondent: An innocent man, Ujjal Karmakar, was brutally killed in an incident that took place last Tuesday in the Char Wadel area of Chandradwip Union under Bauphal Upazila of Patuakhali. He was the sole earning member of his family. His death has left the family in extreme uncertainty and hardship. With no assets other than their homestead, the family is now in a helpless condition. In such a dire situation, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, Member of Parliament for Patuakhali-2 (Bauphal), has come forward as a source of support for the grieving family.A delegation on behalf of Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud visited the home of the deceased on Friday morning, April 3. During the visit, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud spoke via video call with Ujjal Karmakar’s only daughter, his wife, and his mother. He assured them that arrangements would be made for the daughter’s education and for employment for his wife in accordance with her qualifications.Ujjal’s only daughter, Ankita, a fourth-grade student, said, “In the midst of our grief, the honorable MP has inquired about us and taken responsibility for me. I am very grateful to him.” Ujjal’s wife, Mina Rani Das, said, “The honorable MP sent his representatives. He has promised to arrange a job for me according to my educational qualifications so that I can at least sustain a basic livelihood with my only child. Today, he has also provided financial assistance to our family. I express my deep gratitude to him. He has stood by me in my difficult time, and I will never forget this. The people of Bauphal have not just an MP, but a guardian like Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud.” According to local sources, those who were present with Ujjal at the time of the incident have not checked on the grieving family. Their failure to even offer condolences over a phone call has created resentment in the area. Questions have arisen among locals regarding the indifference and irresponsibility of those who took Ujjal to the scene. Residents have demanded a fair investigation and swift justice in the murder case, along with exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
