Desk Report: The government is failing to address public grievances after assuming power, while its apparent plan is limited to repeated increases in the prices of essential goods and services, said Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Chairman Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan Monju.“The government had promised that it had a plan to solve people's problems. But now it appears that its only plan is to increase prices in phases and push people into further hardship,” he said.He made the remarks while addressing a discussion organised to celebrate the first founding anniversary of AB Volunteer Party at the AB Party's central office in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, on Tuesday (November 3).Manju said the prices of electricity and gas had been increased repeatedly, while the prices of essential commodities had also risen. Although government employees had received salary increases, the overall cost of living had continued to climb, putting additional pressure on ordinary citizens. As a result, public anger, frustration and dissatisfaction were growing day by day, he added.Criticising the country's traditional political practices, the AB Party chairman said Bangladesh had followed conventional politics for the past 54 years.“What is the purpose of establishing so many political parties, universities, schools, colleges, mosques and madrasas? Surely, these institutions are meant to guide the state in the right direction and improve people's living standards. Yet, despite all these arrangements, why have we failed to put the state on the right track?” he questioned. He observed that a lack of mutual understanding, trust and communication among political parties often created mistrust and distance, even over minor issues.Emphasising the importance of national unity, Manju said the AB Volunteer Party should play a significant role in bringing people together.“People respond to politics when they find their own interests and rights reflected in it. We must present before the people the vision and possibilities of what the country can achieve if the nation remains united,” he said.Manju also criticised the political promises made by major parties, alleging that the Awami League had deceived people with various assurances. He further said the BNP had promised to create employment opportunities for one crore people but had failed to fulfil that commitment.“Politics should not be about making endless promises. It must be about taking effective initiatives to resolve people's real-life problems,” he said. The programme was chaired by AB Volunteer Party Convener Kefaet Hossain Tanvir and moderated by its Member Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Romiz.Among those who addressed the meeting were AB Party Joint General Secretaries ABM Khalid Hasan, Md Altaf Hossain and Shahadatullah Tutul; Expatriates' Welfare Affairs Secretary Golam Rabbani Raja; AB Youth Party Member Secretary Hadiuzzaman Khokon; Employment Affairs Secretary Shafiul Bashar; and Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Halim Nannu.Volunteer Party Joint Convener Abdul Mannan, Joint Member Secretaries Rashida Akter Mitu and Mizanur Rahman Mithu, and central committee member Khorshed Alam Palash also spoke.Other attendees included Dhaka South Metropolitan Convener Abdul Halim Khokon, Dhaka North Metropolitan Convener Selim Khan, Relief and Rehabilitation Affairs Secretary Razia Sultana, Assistant Office Secretary Mohsinul Haque Chowdhury, Assistant Secretary for Women's Development Shahinur Akter Shila, Assistant Secretary for Entrepreneurship and Employment Sumaiya Sharmin Farhana, Gazipur Metropolitan Member Secretary Masud Jamaddar and Natore District Convener Mokarrebur Rahman Nasim.Volunteer Party Joint Convener Arifur Rahman Mizan, Dr Shah Mahmudul Bari Rakib and central committee members Monir Hossain and Jaber Hossain Sumon were also present.
