Mia Golam Parwar proposes enhanced cooperation in governance studies, youth exchanges and development experience-sharing Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for stronger and regular engagement between political parties of Bangladesh and China to deepen bilateral relations, exchange development experiences and promote mutual cooperation. The proposal was made by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar while addressing a programme organised by the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka at the Crystal Hall of Hotel InterContinental in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.Leading a 12-member Jamaat delegation, Parwar spoke on the theme of the role of party-to-party exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations. He said regular communication, mutual cooperation and the exchange of experiences between political parties were essential to further consolidating the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and China.Recalling the history of bilateral relations, Parwar said Bangladesh and China had maintained friendly relations since 1975 and celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties last year.He also highlighted the longstanding contacts between Jamaat-e-Islami and the Communist Party of China (CPC), referring to several high-level visits by Jamaat leaders to China. He recalled that former Jamaat Ameer and then Industries Minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami visited China in 2006. In September 2024, a Jamaat delegation led by its Nayeb-e-Ameer and then Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, visited the country.Later, in July 2025, another delegation led by Jamaat Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman visited China at the invitation of the Chinese authorities."These visits have demonstrated that relations and communication between political parties can continue even when governments change," Parwar said, stressing that sustained party-level engagement was vital to strengthening bilateral friendship.Learning from China's development experienceExpressing Bangladesh's interest in China's development journey, the Jamaat leader said the country's experience in poverty alleviation, grassroots governance and environmental protection could offer valuable lessons for Bangladesh. He said his party had closely followed the proceedings of the fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, particularly its emphasis on discipline, integrity and maintaining close relations with the people."While maintaining mutual respect and preserving our respective ideological values, we want to learn from each other's experiences," he said.Parwar proposed three specific initiatives to expand future cooperation between the two countries.First, he called for making the Bangladesh-China Centre for Party and State Governance Studies more effective and developing it into a regular platform for exchanging governance and development experiences with different political parties in Bangladesh.Second, he proposed expanding exchanges, visits, joint study programmes and training opportunities for young political leaders and activists of both countries, noting that today's young generation would play a key role in advancing bilateral relations in the future.Third, he emphasised that cooperation and experience-sharing should not remain confined to conference rooms but should reach people at all levels of society. He said farmers, workers, students and small entrepreneurs should also benefit from the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.Jamaat stresses Rohingya repatriationAddressing the Rohingya crisis, Parwar said the presence of nearly two million Rohingyas who had taken shelter in Bangladesh had created challenges not only for Bangladesh but also for the wider region. He stressed that their safe, dignified and voluntary repatriation to their homeland was essential for regional peace and stability. The Jamaat secretary general also said friendship between political parties could not be established overnight but developed through regular communication, sincere engagement and mutual trust. He assured that Jamaat-e-Islami was prepared to play a responsible role in strengthening relations between political parties in Bangladesh and China. At the beginning of his speech, Parwar welcomed Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and members of his delegation visiting Bangladesh. He also thanked the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka for organising the programme and wished the event every success. The Jamaat delegation included Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer; Central Executive Council members Saiful Alam Khan Milon MP, Mobarak Hossain, Nurul Islam Bulbul MP and Mohammad Selim Uddin; and MPs Dr Mosleh Uddin Farid, Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, Najibur Rahman Momen, Nurunnisa Siddika and Advocate Sabikun Nahar.
