Salahuddin Ahmed has underscored the importance of deepening bilateral
cooperation with Saudi Arabia, particularly in the energy sector, as Bangladesh
seeks to diversify its international partnerships beyond manpower exports.Speaking during a
courtesy meeting with Saudi Ambassador Dr Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah at the
Secretariat in Dhaka, the minister described Saudi Arabia as a “brotherly
nation” and a key strategic partner of Bangladesh. He emphasized that there are
significant opportunities to expand collaboration not only in manpower
recruitment but also in energy, tourism, and investment.The meeting covered
a wide range of bilateral issues, including law enforcement cooperation,
security collaboration, tourism development, and increased Saudi investment in
Bangladesh’s energy sector. Both sides expressed interest in strengthening
institutional engagement in these areas.The Home Minister
reiterated that Saudi Arabia remains one of Bangladesh’s closest allies and a
trusted development partner. He also informed that Bangladesh has already
deployed a special team to expedite relevant processes aimed at enhancing
cooperation.Issuing a firm
stance on administrative integrity, the minister warned that no corruption or
irregularities in passport issuance would be tolerated under any circumstances.Saudi Ambassador Dr
Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah congratulated the minister on his new responsibility
and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral
relations between the two countries.He also extended an
invitation for the Home Minister to lead a high-level delegation to Saudi
Arabia. The minister responded positively, indicating that a visit could take
place in the first half of July.
