Desk Report: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Executive Council member and Dhaka City South Secretary, and Member of Parliament from Patuakhali-2, Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, alleged that “administrators are being appointed not in the public’s interest, but as a reward for playing a role in engineered elections."He said, “It is not believable that local government elections will be held quickly by hastily appointing party-affiliated administrators in various local government institutions. If there was a genuine intention to hold elections, previous administrators would not have been replaced with new party-affiliated ones.”Criticizing the ruling party’s post-election actions, he added, “Before the national election, BNP raised the slogan ‘Bangladesh First.’ But after the election, their activities show they are prioritizing party interests over national interest. If the slogan ‘Bangladesh First, Bangladesh for All’ were truly implemented, no government would have to flee by helicopter. Otherwise, they may again face people’s wrath and be forced to leave the country.”Responding to a government transport minister’s remarks about protecting extortionists, Dr. Masud said, “You may have trouble distinguishing between legitimate charges and extortion, but the public understands it clearly. Instead of protecting extortionists, they should be brought to justice to make the country extortion-free. Only by building a nation free from terrorism and extortion can the government earn people’s trust. Otherwise, they will become isolated and lose their existence.”He made these remarks as the chief guest at a workshop for thana presidents and secretaries, organized by the Bangladesh Shramik Kalyan Federation, Dhaka City South, on Thursday afternoon. He called on all levels of leadership to play a stronger role in establishing people’s rights. The event was presided over by Federation’s Dhaka City South President Abdus Salam and conducted by Secretary Sohel Rana Mithu. Other attendees included Vice-President Nazrul Islam, Joint Secretaries Maulana Hafizur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman, Omar Faruk, Zubayer Al Mahmud, Organizing Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Chonchol, Treasurer Joynal Abedin, among others.
