Golam Mostafa: Twenty-one members of five families in Tarash, Sirajganj, have been unable to return to their homes for six months after allegedly refusing to pay Tk 5 lakh in extortion demanded by village leaders over a farmland purchase. The incident took place in Ballabha village under Madhainagar Union of the upazila.The victims held a press conference at the Public Library hall room on Saturday noon. In a written statement, Rubel Rana said they had filed complaints with Tarash Police Station and other concerned offices, but have yet to receive any remedy.Regarding the matter, Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Habibur Rahman said police have been sent to the spot multiple times. “Legal action is being taken as per the law,” he added.
