Bhola Correspondent: A 15-day special campaign to eliminate obstetric Fistula has been launched in Charfashion, Bhola, as part of the national target to eradicate the condition by 2030.The campaign was formally inaugurated on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM by Dr. Shovan Kumar Basak, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer of Charfashion. It will run through May 20, 2026.Present at the inaugural event were Md. Salauddin, Upazila Family Planning Officer; Dr. Md. Ibrahim, SRHR Coordinator of Jhpiego; and Md. Zakir Hossain, District Manager of PHD. Field-level staff of the Health and Family Planning Department also attended.The program was coordinated and conducted by Alamgir Hossain Libul, District Coordinator of CIPRB.Speakers said obstetric fistula is preventable with safe delivery services, skilled healthcare providers, and timely referral for complications. During the campaign, Health and Family Planning Department field workers will conduct door-to-door visits to identify potential fistula patients. All identified patients will receive treatment completely free of charge.To encourage active case finding, field workers will receive an incentive of Tk 1,000 for each patient they identify.At the event, two women who recovered after treatment at the National Fistula Center in Dhaka were given rehabilitation support. With funding from the United Nations Population Fund and support from the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh, each woman received a goat and financial assistance to help them become self-reliant.Organizers said the campaign aims to declare Charfashion a fistula-free upazila by 2026. Extensive awareness activities, patient identification drives, and referral services for advanced treatment will be carried out across the upazila during the campaign.
