|| Desk Report: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned the brutal sexual assault and murder of Ramisa Akter, a second-grade student, in Pallabi, Dhaka, and demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved.In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, May 20, 2026, Chhatra Shibir Central President Nurul Islam and Secretary General Sibgatullah called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice without delay.The leaders said the inhuman and barbaric attack on the seven-year-old girl had shocked the entire nation. According to initial police reports, Ramisa was subjected to perverted sexual abuse and an attempt was made to dismember and conceal her body to cover up the crime.The statement also criticized the deteriorating law and order situation, stating that Ramisa’s murder was not an isolated incident. Over the past few months, violence against women and children has escalated across the country, including an attempted rape and murder of a four-year-old in Sylhet, sexual abuse of an 11-year-old in Netrakona, and the abduction and killing of a 15-year-old girl in Narsingdi after she sought justice for rape.Citing data from human rights organizations, the leaders said that 776 women and children had been subjected to abuse in the first four months of 2026 alone, with at least 81 children raped. Fewer than 3% of these cases have resulted in convictions, they said, reflecting how deeply the culture of impunity has taken root.They argued that the failure to deliver exemplary punishment, political patronage, and delays in the judicial process have emboldened criminals. The government and administration, they said, have failed in their primary duty of ensuring public safety.Chhatra Shibir urged authorities to swiftly bring the arrested main accused, Zakir Hossain alias Sohel Rana, and all others involved in the murder to trial and ensure maximum punishment. The organization also expressed condolences to Ramisa’s bereaved family and called on people from all walks of life to speak out for a safer society for women and children.
