|| MM Rahmatullah: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Executive Council member and Dhaka City South Ameer Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul MP said people are being forced to return home on freight trucks because they cannot afford high bus and train fares ahead of Eid.Speaking at an Eid gift distribution event organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South on Tuesday afternoon. He said, “People are suffering during Eid travel, and the government has taken no effective steps to resolve it. Like Eid-ul-Fitr, people are facing the same ordeal ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. Even when fares are double the normal rate, the government cannot take action or give the people relief and peace. Public suffering is increasing due to the government’s indifference.”Bulbul said the lack of proper travel arrangements has led to many being injured or killed in accidents while traveling on freight trucks. He added that Jamaat-e-Islami aims to build a prosperous, safe, and humane Bangladesh. “Through funds created with the help of Jamaat workers and well-wishers, we are carrying out extensive social activities. One of Jamaat’s four-point programs is social reform and service. Whenever people are in need, during any disaster or crisis, Jamaat-e-Islami goes first and will continue to do so,” he said.Criticizing the lack of state planning, the MP said no government has made long-term plans to improve the living standards of marginalized communities. “As a result, the poor remain poor, while the rich get richer. People no longer want a budget that kills the poor,” he said. “We must move away from traditional budgeting and create a people-friendly budget that ensures social security and improves the living standards of people from all classes and professions.”Central Working Council member and Dhaka City South Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdus Sabur Fakir said most people in the country are deprived of basic opportunities. “Whoever comes to power works to make the rich richer, not to help marginalized communities. Corrupt looters are being protected by the state while ordinary people are exploited,” he added. He alleged that efforts are underway to rehabilitate S Alam, who he said destroyed Islami Bank. “Former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Khurshid Alam, a fugitive and associate of the ousted Awami League, has been appointed chairman of Islami Bank. Shareholders and customers do not accept this appointment, which is why they are protesting. But the government and Bangladesh Bank are ignoring their views and are desperate to bring S Alam’s successor into Islami Bank,” he said. Fakir urged the government to abandon the path of destroying the banking sector and instead appoint honest and upright individuals to run Islami Bank and all other banks to revive the economy.Central Working Council member and Dhaka City South Nayeb-e-Ameer Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin said the government has taken no steps to end public suffering during Eid travel. “Passengers are being carried on freight trucks. What are the highway police and traffic department doing? Due to the government’s indifference, people are losing their lives. If the government cannot run the state, it should step down and give the people relief,” he said.The Eid gift distribution was conducted by Dhaka City South Social Welfare Secretary Shahin Ahmed Khan. Assistant Publicity Secretary Abdus Sattar Suman, Assistant Office Secretary Md. Mujibur Rahman, and Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Federation Dhaka City South Secretary Sohel Rana Mithu, along with other local leaders also present at the event.
