|| Bhola Correspondent: Trained midwives in Bhola have ensured uninterrupted maternal health services at various Union Health and Family Welfare Centres throughout the long Eid-ul-Azha holidays, reaching women even in remote char areas.According to the District Civil Surgeon’s Office on Monday, emergency maternal health services are continuing 24/7, 7 days a week at eight union centres under a project supported by UNFPA and implemented by Partners in Health and Development (PHD).Since January 2025, trained midwives have been providing round-the-clock care in rural areas in Bhola.The centres are providing free antenatal care (ANC), safe delivery, postnatal care (PNC), family planning, and primary screening for cervical cancer through VIA.Despite the Eid holidays, the eight centres conducted 45 normal deliveries. During the same period, 143 pregnant women received ANC and 99 mothers received PNC. Officials said keeping the centres operational during the holidays ensured timely emergency maternal care.Midwives are working with dedication to deliver quality maternal healthcare to women in hard-to-reach char and remote areas. Local service recipients said access to healthcare during the holidays reduced health risks for mothers and newborns and helped ensure safe motherhood.“Having essential health services available during the holiday made a big difference for us,” locals said.Officials added that with support from the government, local administration and the community, the program will continue to bring quality and emergency maternal health services to marginalized populations. The midwives’ round-the-clock service is playing a key role in ensuring safe motherhood and healthy newborns.
