Mohammad Abu Hanif: The high-level investigation committee formed
to examine the deaths of six newborns at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in
Moghbazar, Dhaka, has submitted its report to Health and Family Welfare
Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain.According to a press release issued by the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday, the committee handed over
its findings to the minister following the completion of its inquiry into the
incident.The ministry also stated that a separate
investigation committee formed by the Directorate General of Health Services
(DGHS) is scheduled to submit its report on Thursday (June 4).Health Minister Sakhawat Hossain is expected to
brief the media at 4:00 pm on Thursday, where he will present key findings of
the investigation reports and outline the government's next steps regarding the
incident.The tragic deaths occurred on the morning of
May 27, when six newborns died in the post-delivery ward of Ad-Din Medical
College Hospital. The incident sparked widespread public concern, prompting
authorities to launch multiple investigations to determine the cause.Following the incident, the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare formed a three-member high-level investigation committee.
The DGHS also established a separate three-member committee to conduct an
independent inquiry.In addition, the hospital authorities formed an
internal investigation committee to examine whether any negligence, management
failures, or operational shortcomings contributed to the deaths. The hospital's
committee has already submitted its report to the ministry.
Sources concerned said that a clearer picture
regarding the actual causes of the newborns' deaths and any potential
accountability will emerge once the full findings of the investigation reports
are made public.
