Zakir Hossin, Pirojpur: A college student was killed and two others were seriously injured
in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and an easy bike in the
Dumuritola area near Muktarkashi Bridge under Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. The accident occurred around 12:00 pm on Thursday (June 4).The deceased was identified as Maria Akter, a college student. The
injured are easy bike driver Sohel and Maria’s mother, Aleya Begum. Both are
currently receiving treatment at Pirojpur Sadar Hospital.According to local sources, the accident occurred when a speeding
passenger bus collided head-on with the easy bike, leaving the three-wheeler
severely damaged. All passengers on board sustained serious injuries. Local
residents rushed the victims to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital, where Maria Akter
succumbed to her injuries on the way.Meanwhile, eyewitnesses and local residents have raised concerns
about road safety in the area, claiming that trucks are frequently parked along
the highway for loading and unloading timber and tree logs near the accident
site.Residents said that these parked trucks often occupy part of the
roadway, forcing vehicles to maneuver through a narrowed section of the highway
and increasing the risk of accidents. They believe such conditions may have
contributed to Thursday’s tragic crash.Locals further alleged that despite the issue persisting for a long
time, the relevant authorities have yet to take effective measures. They called
for immediate action to stop illegal truck parking and roadside loading
activities on the highway.Police said that the exact cause of the accident is still under
investigation and that necessary legal procedures are underway. It is worth noting that several fatal accidents involving buses and
easy bikes have occurred in Pirojpur in recent years, prompting renewed calls
from residents for stricter traffic management and enhanced road safety
measures.
