Mijanur Rahman Akanda, Phulpur: Two Sub-Assistant Community Medical
Officers (SACMOs) at Phulpur Upazila Health Complex in Mymensingh have been
served show-cause notices for allegedly prescribing medicines without Drug
Administration (DA) and manufacturing registration numbers, in violation of
government regulations.According to hospital sources, the
two SACMOs, identified as Mofizur Rahman and Sabbir Hossain, prescribed such
medicines on official government prescription pads while attending patients in
the outpatient department, despite existing restrictions on the practice. The notices, signed by Upazila
Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Rahat Chowdhury on June 9, stated that
the actions amounted to defiance of directives issued by higher authorities and
were contrary to government service rules, making them punishable offenses. The accused officials have been
instructed to submit written explanations within two days.Sources further revealed that two
Medical Officers of the same health complex have also been asked to explain
their involvement in similar allegations. The latest action comes amid growing
concerns over alleged irregularities, medical negligence, and the unchecked
activities of SACMOs at the health complex. Following a series of reports
published in different media outlets highlighting these issues, the authorities
have formed a three-member investigation committee to examine the allegations.Officials said appropriate measures
would be taken based on the findings of the inquiry and the responses submitted
by the accused personnel.
