Muhhamd Yousuf, Barishal: Senior labour leader and Central Senior Vice-President of the Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Federation, Prof Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid Khan, has said that workers' rights cannot be fully ensured without the implementation of an Islamic labour policy.Addressing a daylong training camp for selected members of the Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Federation's Barishal district unit on Saturday, Prof Harun alleged that the state had failed to ensure the fundamental rights of citizens over the past 55 years since independence.“Only the establishment of honest leadership and governance can bring peace and stability to the people of this country,” he said.Describing the federation as an organisation founded on ideals and principles, Prof Harun said it has long been working to secure the rights and welfare of workers. “This country belongs to us all and cannot be leased out to anyone. We will protect workers’ rights, even at the cost of our lives,” he added.He also called upon federation activists to unite workers under the banner of truth and justice, stressing the need to strengthen organisational efforts to establish fairness and social justice in society.The training programme was organised by the Barishal district unit of the Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Federation at a city auditorium. The event was presided over by Advocate Zahir Uddin Yamin, a member of the federation’s central executive council and president of its Barishal district unit, while District General Secretary Prof Saiful Islam coordinated the programme.Among the special guests were the federation’s Central General Secretary Laskar Mohammad Taslim, Chief Adviser of the Barishal City unit Maulana Zahir Uddin Mohammad Babar, District Adviser Dr SM Mahfuzur Rahman, and Metropolitan Adviser Hafez Maulana Mohammad Atikullah.Others present included Assistant Director for the Barishal region Md Mashiur Rahman, District Vice-President Md Mostakur Rahman, Joint General Secretary Md Khalilur Rahman, Finance Secretary Md Mujahidul Islam Yusuf, Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary Atikur Rahman Mashiur, Trade Union Secretary Syed Ali Hossain Lovelu, and Publication Secretary Md Kamruzzaman, among others.
