CN Desk: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned the brutal killing of a mother and her three daughters in Lakshmipur’s Raipur upazila, holding the government responsible for what it described as a severe deterioration in the country’s law and order situation. In a joint statement issued on Thursday, June 25, Shibir Central President Nurul Islam and Secretary General Sibgatullah expressed deep shock and concern over the gruesome incident, stating that the government cannot evade responsibility for its failure to ensure public safety and protect citizens’ lives and property. The student organization described the daylight murder of Shahinur Begum, a widow, and her three daughters—Sayma Akter, college student Ikra Akter, and Shifa Akter—as a barbaric and horrifying act that has left the nation stunned and grief-stricken.According to the statement, the suspected attacker, Antar Majumdar, was later killed in a mob beating by enraged locals following the attack. Shibir condemned the killings and prayed for the eternal peace of the victims while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. The organization further alleged that since the BNP-led government assumed office in February, the administration has failed to maintain public security, resulting in a significant rise in murders, terrorism, and other criminal activities across the country.Citing recent data from Police Headquarters, the Shibir leaders claimed that a record 915 murders had been reported nationwide over the past three months. They argued that state failure, administrative indifference, and political patronage have emboldened criminals, allowing violent crimes to escalate.“The tragic incident in Raipur is a grim reflection of the country’s worsening law and order situation, which has created deep public anxiety and a growing sense of insecurity,” the statement said. The leaders stressed that ensuring the safety and security of citizens is a constitutional obligation of the government and accused the authorities of repeatedly failing to fulfill that responsibility.Shibir called for a fair, impartial, and comprehensive investigation into the Lakshmipur killings to uncover the real motives behind the attack and determine whether any individuals were involved behind the scenes. The organization also urged the government to take effective measures to curb murder, terrorism, and crime nationwide, ensure the protection of life and property, and uphold the rule of law.
