|| Aziz Al Jaman, Rangpur Bureau: World Vision Bangladesh on Monday held a dialogue with journalists from across the Rangpur Division to reinforce the role of the media in preventing child labour and child marriage.The discussion, held at the RDRS auditorium in Rangpur, brought together journalists from print, electronic and online media outlets. Participants exchanged views on the current situation of child labour and child marriage, their social, economic and psychological impacts, and the crucial role of responsible journalism in addressing these challenges.Speakers noted that child labour and child marriage not only violate children's fundamental rights but also pose significant obstacles to the country's sustainable development and human resource advancement. They stressed that alongside government initiatives, coordinated efforts involving local administration, public representatives, educational institutions, parents, development organisations and the media are essential to effectively combat these issues.The meeting highlighted the importance of publishing awareness-building stories, investigative reports and positive community initiatives to inspire social change. Participants also underscored the need for ethical, child-sensitive and evidence-based reporting to safeguard children's rights.Journalists attending the dialogue shared their field experiences in reporting on child labour and child marriage and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting public awareness efforts through responsible media coverage.Officials of World Vision Bangladesh briefed the participants on the organisation's ongoing programmes, future plans and various initiatives aimed at preventing child labour and child marriage across the country.
