The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICA) has approved the creation of three new upazilas and one new thana.aThe three new upazilas are Fatikchhari North in Chattogram, Bangra in Cumilla, and South Gafargaon in Mymensingh. The new thana is Halda in Chattogram.The approvals were given at the 121st meeting of NICAR at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair, said PM's Deputy Press Secretary Mostafa Zulfiquar Hasan.He said the meeting decided to incorporate the portions of the Purbachal New Town Project located in the Narayanganj and Gazipur districts, which fall under the jurisdiction of RAJUK, into Dhaka district.Fatikchhari North Upazila will be formed with six unions from Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram district, Bangra Upazila will be created by dividing Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla District, South Gafargaon Upazila will be formed with eight unions under Pagla Police Station from Gafargaon Upazila in Mymensingh District.LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, and secretaries of the relevant ministries were present.
