Staff Reporter || Md. Noor Hakim, the Editor and Publisher of the Daily Sokaler Somoy, has urged students to become honest, virtuous, and proactive in their patriotism. He shared these insights as the chief guest at a discussion, Iftar party, and reception program organized by the Chuadanga District Student Welfare Association at the central auditorium of Jagannath University on Wednesday. Presided over by the association's Vice President Md. Hasanuzzaman and conducted by General Secretary Tarikul Islam, the event featured notable attendees including Aminul Islam, Founder and CEO of Creative Zone IT, former president Md. Shimul Hossain, and various student leaders such as Mostafizur Rahman Rumi, Sakhawatul Islam Khan, and Raihan Hossain Apu. Convener members Moniruzzaman Monir and Abdur Rahman were also present, with overall coordination supported by Md. Niaz Shafiq, Tasrif Ahmed, and Ismail Hossain.During his speech, Md. Noor Hakim emphasized that honesty and character building are essential during student life, as they form the foundation of a developed nation and a prosperous society. He noted that true education is not merely bookish knowledge but a combination of morality, discipline, respect for elders, and social values. He argued that a virtuous character brings excellence to an individual and turns them into a blessing for the future of the country.He outlined several key factors for developing character, including maintaining integrity in every task and having the mindset to correct one's own mistakes. He advised students to ensure regular attendance at educational institutions, follow rules, maintain positive company, and adhere to religious and social principles. Furthermore, he warned against drugs and any activities harmful to the state or society. Emphasizing that character is a person's greatest asset, he encouraged students to follow the advice of their elders to move forward in life.Addressing the challenges of the modern era, Noor Hakim remarked that in a world driven by technology and competition, many students are drifting away from core values due to the influence of social media and globalization. He expressed concern that issues like academic dishonesty, spreading rumors, and online bullying are becoming normalized. He stressed that this is precisely the time to practice values, which is most effectively done during student life. He concluded by stating that while academic skills are necessary, they are incomplete without the internal principles that help one distinguish right from wrong, finally wishing for the health, longevity, and success of all present.
