Special Correspondent: A day-long training workshop aimed at enhancing the professional capacity of
mental health practitioners and promoting the effective application of
evidence-based therapeutic approaches was held in Dhaka on Friday.The workshop was jointly organized by the Health Sector of Dhaka Ahsania
Mission and the ISSUP Bangladesh Chapter at the auditorium of Dhaka Ahsania
Mission.A total of 22 psychotherapists, psychosocial counsellors, and mental health
professionals from various public and private institutions across the country
participated in the training.The session was facilitated by Mr. Zahir Uddin, Assistant Professor,
Department of Clinical Psychology, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
He highlighted the importance of evidence-based therapeutic interventions in
mental healthcare and provided participants with comprehensive theoretical
knowledge alongside practical skills for clinical application.The training focused on key therapeutic skills, including mindfulness,
distress tolerance, emotion regulation, self-soothing techniques, and
interpersonal effectiveness. Participants also engaged in case analyses, group
discussions, and hands-on practical exercises, making the workshop highly
interactive and practice-oriented.According to the organizers, the growing demand for quality mental
healthcare underscores the importance of continuous professional development
for mental health practitioners. They noted that such initiatives play a vital
role in equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills required to
deliver effective, evidence-based, and person-centred mental health services.The organizers further expressed their commitment to continuing similar
capacity-building initiatives in the future to strengthen the country's mental
health workforce and improve the quality of care for service recipients.Certificates will be awarded to all participants who successfully completed
the training workshop.
