|| Aziz Al Jaman: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Jafar Md. Zahid Hossain on Saturday vowed to ensure that government welfare services reach people transparently and efficiently, declaring zero tolerance for corruption, irregularities and harassment within the Department of Social Services.Speaking at a press briefing at the Rangpur District Social Services Office, the minister said all public services would be delivered with transparency and accountability, adding that any allegations of corruption or misconduct would be dealt with promptly.He said the government is implementing a wide range of social safety net programmes to improve the living standards of underprivileged children, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, destitute people and other disadvantaged groups.The minister also highlighted ongoing initiatives to support orphaned and abandoned children through education, vocational training and rehabilitation, enabling them to become self-reliant and productive members of society.He said the government is further strengthening and expanding key welfare programmes, including old-age allowances, widow allowances, disability benefits, educational stipends, microcredit facilities, skills development training and rehabilitation services."Our goal is to take services to the people instead of forcing people to visit government offices repeatedly," he said.Referring to regional development, Zahid Hossain said development plans are being implemented across the country based on the specific needs of each region, while local administrations have been instructed to play a more proactive role in ensuring effective implementation.The minister also urged the media to highlight the public welfare activities of the Department of Social Services, saying greater public awareness would help eligible beneficiaries access government facilities more easily.Following the exchange of views with journalists, the minister held a meeting with officials and provided necessary directives on improving service delivery and programme implementation.
