Khaled Ahmed, Pabna: A series of public welfare, infrastructure, and urban cleanliness initiatives were inaugurated across the city of Pabna on Saturday, as Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas participated in a full day of development-related programs aimed at improving civic services and urban infrastructure.The day began at 11:30 AM with the inauguration of a two-day eye screening camp organized at the Pabna Press Club in collaboration with VisionSpring. The program was arranged for journalists of the district and their family members. The opening ceremony was presided over by Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, with participation from local administration officials including Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam and Superintendent of Police Shufi Ullah. VisionSpring optometrist Dr. Ariful Islam outlined the medical services provided under the initiative.Following the health camp inauguration, the MP launched multiple road development projects. He formally inaugurated a 1,390-meter Dense Carpeting (DC) road construction project stretching from Latif Tower to the Pabna General Hospital gate, covering Ward 7 and Ward 9. Later in the day, he also inaugurated another 562-meter DC road construction project on Power House Road in Ward 11, aimed at improving local connectivity and transportation efficiency.Local government officials and political leaders, including representatives from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and municipal engineering departments, were present during the ceremonies. Religious proceedings, including prayers, were conducted following the inaugurations.In a significant urban infrastructure push, new waste management equipment was also officially introduced for the Pabna Municipality under a government-backed integrated sanitation and hygiene project implemented through the Department of Public Health Engineering. The newly commissioned fleet includes three dump trucks, two backhoe loaders, and one modern road sweeping vehicle designed to improve solid waste management and urban cleanliness.Speaking at the event, MP Shimul Biswas stated that a master plan worth approximately Tk 25 billion has been initiated to transform Pabna into a modern, clean, and livable city. He emphasized improvements in solid waste management, road rehabilitation, and the expansion of modern civic facilities, expressing optimism that these initiatives would significantly enhance urban living standards.District Commissioner Aminul Islam, Superintendent of Police Shufi Ullah, and municipal officials also expressed hope that the newly introduced vehicles and ongoing infrastructure projects would play a key role in ensuring a cleaner and more organized city.The day-long series of inaugurations reflects ongoing efforts to accelerate urban development and public service delivery in Pabna through coordinated government and local administrative initiatives.
