|| Lakshmipur Correspondent: An expatriate who recently returned from Oman was allegedly beaten with an iron pipe and confined inside his home without medical treatment for five days by his wife, two sons and brother-in-law in Lakshmipur's Raipur upazila, allegedly over a dispute involving family property.The victim, Abdul Mannan, was eventually rescued in critical condition by his younger brother, Md Selim, and admitted to Raipur Upazila Health Complex after local residents informed him that Mannan was being held inside the family home.A written complaint was filed with Raipur Police Station on Wednesday night.The accused have been identified as Mannan's wife, Parvin Begum, his two sons, Parvez and Mahaj, and his brother-in-law, Foyez. All are residents of Uttar Keroya village under Keroya Union in Raipur upazila.According to the complaint, tensions had long existed within the family over property and financial matters. Selim alleged that the accused had repeatedly threatened Mannan before the incident.The complaint states that on the night of July 10, the accused allegedly assaulted Mannan with a GI pipe, causing severe injuries to his head and nose. Instead of taking him to a hospital, they allegedly kept him confined inside the house for five days without treatment.After receiving information from local residents, Selim went to his brother's residence to check on him. He claimed the family initially told him that Mannan had travelled to Dhaka. However, neighbours informed him that the victim was still inside the house.With the assistance of local residents, Selim rescued Mannan and rushed him to Raipur Upazila Health Complex.The complaint alleges that doctors treated Mannan with four stitches on the left side of his head and three stitches on his nose."My elder brother worked abroad for nearly 30 years and has accumulated assets. Greed over his property led his wife, sons and brother-in-law to attack him. Had I not reached there, they might have killed him," Selim told reporters, demanding a fair investigation and justice.Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin of Raipur Police Station confirmed that police had received the written complaint."We have received the complaint. Legal action will be taken after an investigation," the OC said.Police said the allegations are currently under investigation, and no arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report.
