Md. Mijanur Rahman Akanda, Phulpur (Mymensingh): A child named Marjina (13) was raped in Phulpur, Mymensingh. The child committed suicide by consuming poison due to shame and humiliation in this incident.It is learned that the incident took place last Sunday in Barashuni village of Bhaitkandi union of the upazila. Marjina's grandmother Aruna said that on Sunday night, Rubel Mia (35), a scoundrel from the neighboring house, lured the child Marjina to his house. Later, around 11 pm, Marjina returned home while drinking poison and said, Rubel (rapist) raped me. I will not be able to show this face of mine to anyone else. That is why I consumed poison. Marjina was immediately taken to Phulpur Upazila Hospital, where the doctor on duty referred her to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Later, the child Marjina died at the hospital around 4 am on Monday. Marjina was a 6th grade student of Mokamia High School in the upazila. Her father's name is Manik Mia (35). He is a daily wage laborer by profession. In the incident, Marjina's family has demanded the immediate arrest and hanging of the rapist Rubel. In this regard, Rashedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Phulpur Police Station, said that the father of child Marjina, Manik Mia, has filed a rape case with the police station as a complainant. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused Rubel.
