Desk Report: The Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) has alleged that the words and actions of the BNP do not match regarding the implementation of the July Charter. This was stated by the party’s chairman, Mozibur Rahman Manju, at a protest rally and procession held today in Paltan, Dhaka. The rally, organized in the afternoon at the Bijoy-71 Chottor in Paltan, was held to protest the procrastination over the people’s revolutionary achievement—the ‘July Charter’—and attempts to annul the ‘Referendum Ordinance’.
The rally was chaired by the party’s joint secretary, Md. Altaf Hossain, with speeches delivered by senior vice chairman Dr. Abdul Wahab Minar, joint secretary Barrister Zobayer Ahmed Bhuiya, and other central leaders.
In his speech, Mozibur Rahman Manju said that the July uprising could only be considered partially successful if the July Charter is implemented; otherwise, the July uprising would be entirely deemed a failure. He expressed disappointment over the delay tactics and constitutional debates created by the ruling party regarding the referendum and the July Charter.
He further stated that if Bangladesh had been defeated in the Liberation War of 1971, all freedom fighters, including Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman, would have faced execution for treason and violation of Pakistan’s constitution. He warned that if the July Charter is not implemented, and the current divisions and uncertainties among the forces of July continue, then if the Awami League comes to power again, figures like Tarique Rahman, Shafiqul Rahman, Dr. Yunus, Nahid Islam, and others would face punishment for constitutional violations and revolutionary actions.
He cautioned that aligning referendum, July National Charter Ordinance, and the July Charter with constitutional disputes is effectively joining the authoritarian tones of the Awami League.
He added that the proper address of political parties is the streets, as the streets have repeatedly changed Bangladesh’s history. If procrastination continues over the July Charter, the party will choose the streets to realize the aspirations of a popular uprising. He emphasized that they could never forget the July martyrs, including Abu Saeed, Mughdha, Wasim, Anas, and 6-year-old martyr Ria Gop. He stressed the commitment to protect the New Bangladesh achieved at the cost of the blood of July martyrs.
Senior Vice Chairman Professor Dr. Wahab Minar stated that procrastination over the July Charter would not be tolerated and urged the BNP to govern the country in light of July’s ideals, warning of consequences if they fail to do so.
Other speakers at the protest rally included Joint Secretary Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun Rana, ABM Khalid Hasan, Aminul Islam FCA, Shahadatullah Tutul, Dhaka North City Coordinator Selim Khan, Dhaka South City Coordinator Abdul Halim Khokon, Workers’ Affairs Secretary Shah Abdur Rahman, AB Youth Party Secretary Hadiuzzaman Khokon, Gazipur City Coordinator Engineer Alomgir Hossain, Volunteer Party Coordinator Kefayet Hossain Tanvir, Dhaka South City Secretary Barkaj Nasir Ahmad, Library & Mass Education Secretary Anwar Faruq, Gazipur District & City Secretary Masud Jamadar Rana, Dhaka North City Secretary Samiul Islam Shobuj, Volunteer Party Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Romij, Employment Secretary Safiul Bashar, Education Secretary Professor Omar Faruq, AB Professionals Council General Secretary Mahbub Shamim, Organizational Secretary (Dhaka) Shajahan Byapari, Workers’ Affairs Joint Secretary Aziza Sultana, Women’s Development Joint Secretary Amena Begum, Professionals Council Joint Coordinator Tanvir Yusuf, Romna Thana AB Party Coordinator Abdul Kader Munsi, and Polash Thana Coordinator Kajol Mia.
