Eid Reunion Brings Together Student Leaders in Dhaka

Desk Report: Leaders of several student organizations gathered in the capital on Tuesday evening for an Eid reunion organized by Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.

The event, held after Maghrib prayers at a restaurant on Kalvert Road, was presided over by the organization’s central president, Nurul Islam Saddam. Central Office Secretary Azizur Rahman Azad conducted the program, while Secretary General Sibghatullah Sibgah and other senior leaders were in attendance.

The event opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Hafez Ismail Hossain, the organization’s Central Madrasah Affairs Secretary.

Addressing the gathering, Nurul Islam criticized the current political situation, alleging that the government has deviated from the spirit of a recent political movement. He also accused authorities of undermining reform initiatives related to human rights, judicial independence, and institutional accountability.

He expressed concern over the country’s energy crisis, saying government measures have been inadequate. He further opposed proposals to shift educational institutions back to online classes, warning that such a move could hinder students’ development.

Representatives from multiple student groups attended the event, including Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, JAGPA Chhatra Kafela, Bangladesh Khelafat Chhatra Majlish, Jatiyatabadi Gonotantrik Chhatra Andolon, Bangladesh Muslim Chhatra League, Gonotantrik Chhatra Dal, and Bangladesh Chhatra Pokkho.

In his closing remarks, Nurul Islam reiterated his criticism of the government, alleging it has failed to address key national challenges, including unemployment, and has disregarded public expectations. He warned that any attempt to restore authoritarian practices would face resistance from student groups.

He also said student organizations would be willing to cooperate with the government if meaningful steps are taken to address fundamental issues.

The event concluded with an exchange of Eid greetings among participants, followed by a dinner.
