Staff Correspondent: At a discussion titled “Zakat and the Significance of Ramadan” organized by Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami’s Dhaka‑6 constituency, former MP and Jamaat Assistant Secretary‑General Dr. A.H.M. Hamidur Rahman Azad said, “Those who do not fear Allah are not afraid to engineer elections.” He stressed that anyone who believes they will be accountable to Allah cannot cast fake votes or manipulate elections.
Dr. Azad, speaking as chief guest, described fasting
as a means of attaining taqwa (God‑consciousness). “Fasting is not for show; it
is for Allah. It purifies a person. If after Ramadan a person still engages in
corruption, extortion or terrorism, their fast is meaningless,” he warned. He
added that Ramadan, the month of Qur’an revelation, elevates any individual,
society or state that internalizes its teachings. “Only by establishing
Qur’anic principles can a person, community or nation achieve true success,” he
said.
Special guest Dr. Abdul Mannan, chairman of Old
Dhaka Development Forum and assistant secretary of Dhaka South, highlighted
that Zakat became obligatory in the second Hijri year to purify and dynamize
the economy. “A vibrant economy is the key to eradicating poverty,” he noted,
urging everyone to calculate and pay Zakat correctly.
The event, held on Friday afternoon, was chaired by
Dhaka South’s Working Committee Member Md. Kamrul Ahsan Hasan. Attendees
included city Shura members Master Ruhul Amin, Mir Bahar Aminul Islam, Nesar Uddin,
as well as local thana Ameers, secretaries and other party officials from the
Dhaka‑6 constituency.
After the discussion, participants joined an Iftar
mahfil hosted by the same organizing committee.
