MA Mannan, Bhola: A review meeting of the Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Committee was held in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola to strengthen efforts to prevent maternal deaths, neonatal deaths and stillbirths.
The meeting was
chaired by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Abu Mahmud Talha.
Officials reviewed the progress of maternal and neonatal healthcare services,
including Community Death Review (CDR) and Facility Death Review (FDR)
activities.
The meeting stressed
the need to ensure safe delivery services, expand antenatal care (ANC),
identify high-risk pregnancies and strengthen community awareness programmes.
Data onS maternal
deaths, neonatal deaths and stillbirths recorded in the upazila during a
specific period were presented. The progress of verbal autopsy, social autopsy
and reporting under the CDR programme was also reviewed.
Officials also
discussed the status of deaths occurring in health facilities under the FDR
programme and the recommendations derived from those reviews.
The meeting
identified key challenges at the field level, including weaknesses in the
reporting system, referral delays and manpower shortages, and discussed
measures to address them.
The MPDSR programme
is being implemented in Bhola with technical and financial support from UNFPA
and implementation support from CIPRB to strengthen the health system and
reduce preventable maternal and neonatal deaths.
An action plan was
adopted at the meeting to further improve monitoring, reporting and awareness
activities.
In his closing
remarks, the chair said coordinated efforts and regular review meetings are
essential to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality at the community level.
