ISDE distributes food aid to 1000 families in two unions of Chakaria

Cox's Bazar Correspondent: ISDE Bangladesh distributed food assistance to 1,000 underprivileged families in Laksharchar and Surajpur-Manikpur unions of Chakaria upazila, Cox’s Bazar, on Wednesday, May 20.The day-long distribution was held separately in the two unions under a program funded by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre. Each union received aid for 500 families. Indigenous communities, ethnic minorities, and families of various faiths were also included among the beneficiaries.At the Laksharchar Union Parishad distribution event, attendees included Union Secretary Kauser Jannat Kumkum, Panel Chairman Shahidullah, UP members Sarwar Alam, Najum Uddin, Nurul Alam, and Abu Taher, as well as reserved women members Rokeya Begum Baby, Shiuli Akter, and Sayra Khanam.In Surajpur-Manikpur Union Parishad, the event was attended by Union Secretary Erfan Uddin, UP members Abdul Hamid and Manjur Alam, and reserved women members Khurshida Begum, Saleha Begum, and Basu Rani Sharna.Local representatives and organization officials said the initiative was launched to support families facing food shortages and economic strain. They added that similar assistance programs for vulnerable and marginalized communities would continue in the future.Jahangir Alam, Program Coordinator at ISDE Bangladesh, said, “From a sense of social and humanitarian responsibility, we are conducting food aid programs in various areas. With the support of local administration and public representatives, we have been able to reach the actual beneficiaries.”Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support. Sultana Begam of Laksharchar said, “It’s very hard to manage household expenses. This assistance has been a great help to our family.”  Ranjit Tripura of Surajpur-Manikpur said, “I liked that people from all communities were given aid together. It has benefited marginalized people like us.”ISDE added that prior to this, it had distributed food aid to nearly 31,000 beneficiaries in host communities and Rohingya refugee camps. ISDE Monitoring Officer Mostak Ahmed, Logistics Coordinator Taj Uddin, and Upazila Manager Jalal Uddin were also present at the event.
