The Dhaka Press Club marked Bangla Shubho Noboborsho 1433 with a daylong celebration at Sydney Homes, Malibagh, on 14 April 2026. Members of the club joined the event that featured discussions, prayers, and a community lunch highlighting Bengali culture and press freedom.
The discussion session was chaired by Dhaka Press Club President Md Shahadat Hossain Shaheen, while General Secretary Md Mosleh Uddin Bachchu moderated the program. The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Hafez Maulana Md Salahuddin.
At the outset, Shamsul Haque Durani, editor of _Dainik Nowroj_ and adviser to the Dhaka Press Club, was welcomed with flowers after being released on bail from jail.
Addressing the gathering, veteran journalist Shamsul Haque Durani said, “When someone commits a crime, a judge delivers justice and punishment. But when a judge himself is involved in wrongdoing, who will judge him? Journalists hesitate to write against judicial misconduct. I exposed the misdeeds of a judge in my newspaper. As a result, corrupt members of the judiciary became enraged, filed false cases against me, and sent me to jail. They threatened me in many ways to stop publishing news. I have ignored all of it, I published the news, and I will continue to do so.”
Adviser to the Dhaka Press Club Advocate Shafiqul Islam Kajol also spoke on various aspects of Bengali culture during the Noboborsho celebration. Members of the Dhaka Press Club Executive Committee took part in the discussion.
The program concluded with a special prayer, followed by lunch for all attendees.
