UGC to host national workshop on higher education transformation

MM Rahmatullah: The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh will hold a daylong national workshop in the capital today, aimed at making the country’s higher education modern, skills-based, and sustainable.  

Titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: Roadmap to Sustainable Excellence,” the workshop will be held at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University.  

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the workshop at 10:00 am. Distinguished academics, cabinet members, vice-chancellors of various universities, policymakers, senior government officials, teachers, researchers, industry representatives, and development partners will participate.  

Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon and Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin will attend the inaugural session as special guests. UGC Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed will preside over the event.  

Following the inaugural session, five technical sessions will be held. These sessions will feature in-depth discussions on graduate employability, soft skills development and demand-based education; industry-academia collaboration and global competitiveness; digital transformation, digital literacy and integration of artificial intelligence; faculty development, research excellence and internationalization; and governance, quality assurance, and institutional reform.  

Based on the views of participants, the UGC plans to formulate an actionable policy roadmap for the country’s higher education sector.
