Unico Hospitals Holds National Workshop to Enhance Critical Care Nursing

Unico Hospitals PLC has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening critical care services in Bangladesh by organizing the National Workshop on Critical Care Nursing 2026, bringing together nursing professionals from hospitals across the country to enhance their clinical expertise and practical competencies.

Held under the theme, "Advancing Excellence in Critical Care Nursing," the workshop focused on equipping nurses with evidence-based knowledge and hands-on skills to deliver safe, high-quality care to critically ill patients.

The workshop was inaugurated by Ms. Halima Akhter, Registrar of the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC), as the chief guest. Ms. Elizabeth Jothi, Chief of Nursing Service at Unico Hospitals PLC, chaired the event, while Ms. Ardra Kurien, Chief Executive Officer of Unico Hospitals PLC, served as the chief patron.

Among the distinguished guests were Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Md. Sharif Ahmed, Chief Medical Services (CMS), Unico Hospitals PLC; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Omar Faruq, Founding President of the Bangladesh Society of Critical Care Medicine (BSCCM); Dr. Umme Qulsum, Consultant in Critical Care Medicine at Unico Hospitals PLC; Mr. Ahasan Habib, National Nurse Specialist of the ProNurse Project, Cowater International, Canada; and Dr. Nahida Akhter, PhD, President of the Critical Care Nursing Society of Bangladesh (CCNSB), alongside other renowned clinicians and nursing leaders.

The scientific sessions covered key areas of critical care nursing, including comprehensive patient assessment, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, airway and ventilator management, care of mechanically ventilated patients, and ICU crisis management.

Participants also took part in intensive hands-on training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, crash cart management, endotracheal tube (ETT) care, suction techniques, mechanical ventilator management and troubleshooting, and pressure ulcer prevention.

A post-test and quiz competition were held to evaluate participants' learning, with certificates and awards presented to outstanding performers.

Through the initiative, Unico Hospitals PLC underscored its dedication to advancing nursing excellence, fostering continuous professional development, and enhancing the quality and safety of critical care services across Bangladesh.
