Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: ISDE Bangladesh has distributed food assistance to another 1,000 flood-affected families in Cox’s Bazar as part of its ongoing humanitarian response aimed at supporting 5,000 households devastated by the recent floods.The second phase of the relief programme was carried out on Sunday in Fasiakhali and Kaiyarbil unions under Chakaria upazila, where 500 families in each union received emergency food packages.The initiative is being implemented by ISDE Bangladesh with financial support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief). Earlier, in the first phase, the organisation provided food assistance to 1,000 flood-hit families in Chakaria municipality. The remaining beneficiaries will receive support in subsequent phases, the organisation said.Each family received a food package containing 10 kilograms of rice, 7 kilograms of lentils, 3 litres of soybean oil, 1 kilogram of sugar and 1 kilogram of salt to help meet their immediate food needs following the disaster.The distribution programme at Fasiakhali Union Parishad was attended by Administrative Officer Md Ataul Gani Parvez, community leader Kutub Uddin and Engineer Sahedul Mostafa.At Kaiyarbil Union Parishad, the event was attended by Union Parishad Secretary Nurul Alam, community leader Shekaf Uddin Uddin, ward members Mozammel Haque, Nurul Islam, Akhtar Ahmed and Abul Kalam, former UP member Abu Yusuf Mohammad Yahya, and social worker Ariful Islam.Representing ISDE Bangladesh were Project Coordinator Md Jahangir Alam, Upazila Manager Jalal Uddin, Project Officer (MEAL) Mostak Ahmed and Project Officer (Logistics) Taj Uddin.Speaking at the event, local representatives said the recent floods had left many families without homes, food supplies and sources of income, pushing them into severe hardship. They described the food assistance as timely support that would help ease the suffering of affected communities.Project Coordinator Md Jahangir Alam said supporting flood victims was a humanitarian responsibility."In the first phase, we provided food assistance to 1,000 families in Chakaria municipality. Today, another 1,000 families in Fasiakhali and Kaiyarbil have received support. We will continue the programme until all 5,000 targeted flood-affected families are reached," he said.Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the assistance would help their families cope with food shortages after many lost their homes, livelihoods and belongings in the floods.ISDE Bangladesh also noted that it had previously distributed food assistance to nearly 56,000 beneficiaries, including vulnerable host communities in remote areas and Rohingya refugee camps. The organisation said it would continue its humanitarian programmes to strengthen food security for people affected by disasters and other emergencies.
