Desk Report: US President Donald Trump has expressed his expectation of meeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the “not too distant future” and conveyed his warmest regards and love to the people of Bangladesh.
Trump made the remarks in a letter sent to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday, according to Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
“I look forward to meeting you in the not too distant future,” Trump said in the letter, signalling his interest in meeting the Bangladeshi prime minister in the coming days.
The US president also thanked Bangladesh for its decision to purchase Boeing aircraft and expressed confidence in the American aircraft manufacturer’s ability to meet Bangladesh’s expectations.
“Boeing will not let you down, and I will not forget,” Trump said.
Trump praises Bangladesh’s future
In his letter, Trump expressed optimism about the future of Bangladesh and its people under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
“Please give my warmest regards and love to the people of Bangladesh,” Trump said.
He acknowledged the difficulties Bangladesh and its people have faced and expressed confidence that the country would move towards a brighter future under the prime minister’s leadership.
“They have been through much but, under your leadership, I feel certain that they, and your Country itself, will have a very bright future,” the US president said.
Boeing purchase highlighted
Trump also thanked Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his attention to Bangladesh’s planned purchase of Boeing aircraft.
The reference to Boeing is significant as aircraft purchases can contribute to stronger commercial ties between countries while supporting the expansion and modernisation of national aviation.
Trump’s message therefore combines a personal expression of interest in meeting the Bangladeshi prime minister with a broader indication of continued US interest in Bangladesh-US relations and bilateral trade.
The letter comes at a time when Bangladesh and the United States are seeking to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Trump’s warm message and his positive comments about Bangladesh’s future are likely to add further momentum to engagement between the two countries.
For Bangladesh, the proposed meeting between the two leaders could provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, trade and investment, aviation cooperation and other issues of importance to both countries.
