Diplomatic Correspondent: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have discussed ways to further expand trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Türkiye, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.The two leaders held a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Wednesday.The meeting took place in the evening, New York time, at the Turkish House, located at 821 United Nations Plaza near the UN Headquarters.According to Prime Minister’s Assistant Press Secretary K M Nazmul Haque, the meeting focused on strengthening and diversifying the historic and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Türkiye while identifying new areas of cooperation based on mutual interests and shared priorities.During the meeting, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President Erdogan exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest.The two leaders discussed the prospects for expanding existing cooperation in trade, the economy and investment, with particular emphasis on exploring new avenues that could further deepen economic ties between the two countries.They also expressed their firm commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of common interest.Bangladesh and Türkiye have maintained longstanding friendly relations, with cooperation extending beyond bilateral economic ties to a range of regional and international issues.The leaders also underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination and cooperation between the two countries on regional and international matters of common interest.The New York meeting came as world leaders gathered for the 81st UN General Assembly, providing an opportunity for Bangladesh and Türkiye to review their bilateral relations and explore avenues for broader future cooperation.The discussions between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and President Erdogan are expected to add further momentum to efforts to diversify Bangladesh-Türkiye cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and economic engagement.
