DU Seeks Stronger Academic, Research Ties with Chinese Universities

MM Rahmatullah: A 12-member Chinese academic delegation led by Prof. Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam at his office on Wednesday.

The delegation included Prof. Duan Xingwu, Vice President of Yunnan University; Prof. Fan Daqi, Vice President of the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies; Prof. Lv Peiming, Vice President of Tongji University; and Prof. Wu Jian, Vice President of East China Normal University, among other senior officials from various Chinese universities.

Later, the delegation attended the plenary meeting of the Academic Board of the Centre for China Studies of Dhaka University at the VC’s Meeting Room, where DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam presided over the session.

Among others present at the meeting were DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A.M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury, Noakhali University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ismail, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, and Director of the Office of International Affairs of DU Prof. Dr. Syeda Rozana Rashid.

Speaking at the meeting, the DU Vice-Chancellor expressed keen interest in expanding academic and research collaboration with Chinese universities and creating wider learning opportunities for students and young researchers.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening ongoing joint academic and research programmes, faculty and student exchange initiatives, training programmes, and other collaborative efforts between Dhaka University and different universities in China.

The meeting was viewed as a significant step toward enhancing higher education cooperation and fostering deeper academic engagement between Bangladesh and China.
