Youth attacked with Iron Rod during break-in, accused still at large, family in fear

Md. Monjurul Alam, Badarganj: A 28-year-old man is in critical condition at Rangpur Medical College Hospital after being attacked with an iron rod during an alleged burglary at his home in Amashu Kukrul Purba Para under Parashuram Police Station, Rangpur City.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm on May 3. The victim, Milan Mia, sustained severe head injuries and required 18 stitches, doctors said. They added that his condition remains critical and he may need emergency surgery.

According to a complaint filed by the family, Milan returned home around 10:00 pm after buying medicine for his ill father. He noticed his house was dark despite power being available in the neighborhood. Inside, he found the almirah lock broken and belongings scattered.

While checking the room, he sensed someone under the bed. When he tried to pull the person out, the intruder emerged with an iron rod from a tube well, allegedly kept under the bed, and struck Milan repeatedly on the head. Milan collapsed on the floor.

Hearing his screams, locals rushed in and caught the suspect. However, the accused later managed to escape, the family alleged.

Family members called the national emergency service 999 around 10:20 pm. SI Shahadat Hossain of Parashuram Police Station and his team left for the spot. On the way, police met Milan and his family and advised them to take him to the hospital immediately. The family informed police that the suspect had been caught by locals, but he fled before officers reached the scene.

Locals allege that Muslim Uddin, Hossain Ali, and Yaqub Ali helped the accused, identified as Limon Mia, 20, son of Sadekul Islam of the same area, escape.

The complaint states the intruders entered the house to steal. The family alleges that associates of the accused took around Tk 50,000 from the home. The FIR claims Milan was attacked after he recognized the intruder.

The family said filing the complaint was delayed because they were busy with Milan’s treatment. A case was filed on May 6, 2026, but police have yet to arrest the accused. Locals allege that Limon is moving freely in the area, yet there has been no visible effort to detain him. The incident has created panic in the neighborhood, and the victim’s family says they are living in fear.

Raihan Siraji, Member of Parliament for Rangpur-1 (Gangachara), was present at Parashuram Police Station during the filing of the complaint, sources said. He urged police to investigate the matter seriously and arrest the culprits quickly.

Parashuram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rajibul Islam said, “We have received the written complaint. After investigation, a case has been filed. The arrest process is underway."
