Doctor Caught Treating at Private Hospital During Office Hours, Flees as Journalists Arrive; Video Goes Viral

Md Mizanur Rahman, Chapainawabganj: It was office hours. He was supposed to be present at the District Civil Surgeon’s office. However, instead of attending his government duties, he was found treating patients at a private hospital. When journalists and cameras suddenly appeared, the doctor reportedly ran away. The video of him fleeing after being caught red-handed has gone viral on social media, particularly Facebook.

The incident took place at Chapai Apollo Hospital in the Arambagh area of Chapainawabganj town. The situation of the doctor treating patients at a private hospital during office hours and then fleeing after being caught has sparked widespread criticism after the video went viral. The accused doctor is Dr. Md. Injamam Ul Haque, who works as a Medical Officer (Coordinator) at the Civil Surgeon’s Office in Chapainawabganj.

According to reports, on Thursday (July 2) afternoon, Dr. Md. Injamam Ul Haque was seen providing treatment at Chapai Apollo Hospital. In the viral video, he was even seen performing an ultrasound on a patient. At that moment, journalists arrived at the hospital and began recording video. As soon as he noticed the journalists and cameras while treating a patient, he immediately stood up from his chair and ran out of the hospital.

Local residents and eyewitnesses Minar Ahmed and Sakir Ali said they suddenly saw the doctor running out of the hospital. Journalists with cameras followed him. Later, the doctor stood on the road, took out his mobile phone, and went live on Facebook claiming that he had come there for prayer. Later, it was learned that he had actually been attending a private hospital during official working hours, skipping his government duties.

After the video of his escape went viral, a social media user named Aminul Islam wrote that it is very unfortunate that a government employee paid by public money is not regularly present at his office and is instead found at a private hospital during office hours. He demanded exemplary punishment for such behavior.

The chairman of Chapai Apollo Hospital, Md. Salauddin, and supervisor Shri Biswajit told Somoy TV over the phone that Dr. Injamam Ul Haque had come from the Civil Surgeon’s office to provide treatment during his lunch break. Biswajit further claimed that a syndicate is targeting doctors and that the incident was created as part of a conspiracy, calling it a misunderstanding with journalists.

Repeated attempts to contact Dr. Md. Injamam Ul Haque, Medical Officer (Coordinator) of the Civil Surgeon’s office, were unsuccessful as he did not answer phone calls. He also did not respond to WhatsApp messages. However, at around midnight, he posted on his Facebook account stating:
“Alhamdulillah, the misunderstanding that arose regarding the situation involving four journalists and Dr. Md. Injamam Ul Haque has been resolved. Please refrain from negative comments.”

Regarding the matter, Civil Surgeon Dr. A.K.M. Shahab Uddin told Somoy TV over the phone that Dr. Injamam Ul Haque was with him in office from morning until 12:30 PM for various official tasks. However, he said he was not aware that the doctor went to a private hospital during office hours. No complaint had been received regarding the matter. He added that there is no permission for doctors to provide services in private hospitals during office hours, and if any complaint is received, a strict investigation will be conducted and legal action will be taken.
