Five remitters of National Bank Exchange House were honoured with the "2nd Bangladesh Remitters Recognition 2026" award in Singapore on August 10, 2026. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam presented the awards. The event recognised expatriate remittance warriors who have made significant contributions to the country's economy by sending remittances through legal or banking channels. In the individual category, Md. Rezaul Karim, Nazmul Arefin, and Md. Omar Faruk Sabuj received awards in the "By Volume" category for sending the highest amount of remittances through National Bank Exchange House. Mohammad Babul and Mohammad Jamiul Islam received awards in the "By Frequency" category for sending remittances most frequently through the same institution. Speaking as guest of honour at the event, National Bank PLC Chairman and IBA Professor Dr. Melita Mehjabeen said that expatriate Bangladeshis, even those sending just a single dollar home, are each playing an important role in the country's economy. She noted that remittances carry multifaceted positive impacts — the money may be funding a child's education or covering a family's medical expenses, sometimes giving someone a new lease on life. She added that she has personally witnessed how strong a sense of responsibility remitters feel toward their country and people while living abroad, and that the importance of remittances has become especially clear over the past two years.The "2nd Bangladesh Remitters Recognition 2026" event was also attended by Thakral Group Managing Director Gurmukh Singh Thakral, Agrani Bank PLC Chairman Syed Abu Naser Bakhtiar Ahmed, One Bank PLC Chairman A.S.M. Shahidullah Khan, Prime Bank PLC CEO Faisal Rahman, Bangladesh Business Chamber Singapore President Md. Sahiduzzaman, along with representatives of various exchange houses in Singapore, officials from the Singapore government, officials from the Bangladesh High Commission, and expatriate Bangladeshis — bringing total attendance to over 150 guests.
