BNP will organize Doa mahfil across the country, including the party central office in Dhaka, today marking the 82nd birthday of late Begum Khaleda Zia, former BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister.
“Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's birthday is today. As in previous years, prayer programmes have been arranged to observe the day. These prayers will be held at party offices in Dhaka and nationwide,” Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on Friday.
He said that a prayer programme will be held at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan at 11am. Similarly, prayers will also be held at the Gulshan office. BNP will organize the prayer programmes at all party offices across the country.
“In her political life after independence, Begum Khaleda Zia had to endure much sorrow, pain, oppression and persecution. Since entering politics, she has struggled for the country and democracy,” he said.
“She was present in various movements and struggles, including the student-people’s uprising. After that, she faced repeated attacks. But Begum Khaleda Zia could not be unsettled in any way, nor could she be deviated from the path of duty. With her head held high like the Himalayan Mountains, she had remained steadfast in her commitments,” he said.
On the selection of BNP's next Secretary General, Rizvi said, “The party will inform accordingly as per their decision.”
When asked about the government’s six-month milestone and progress on the party's 31-point agenda, Rizvi said, “Journalists will receive a written description or booklet on this matter by tomorrow or the day after. It will contain detailed statistics on what percentage of the targets has been met.”
All targets set for six months have been largely achieved, he said, claiming that although some points are not 100% complete, some are 95% complete, some 90%, and some have reached 100%.
Regarding the announcement of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's new central committee, Rizvi said he has not received any directive on this matter yet. If such a decision is made, the party high command will discuss it with those concerned.
