Initiative aims to improve livelihoods of poor beneficiaries through livestock farming
Golam Mostafa, Special Correspondent: Monitoring Adviser of the Bangladesh NGO Foundation Dr Md Zakaria has visited a cattle-rearing programme for disadvantaged beneficiaries in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, reviewing the progress of an initiative aimed at improving rural livelihoods through livestock farming.
During his visit on Saturday morning, Dr Zakaria inspected cattle owned by 10 beneficiaries in Asan Bari village under Tarash municipality.
The beneficiaries received the cattle in June this year with financial assistance from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation under a programme implemented by the non-governmental development organisation Paribartan.
Speaking during the visit, Dr Zakaria said Paribartan had been receiving grants from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation for the past 13 years. The organisation had also received special grants on two occasions in recognition of its development activities.
He assured the beneficiaries and the organisation that financial assistance would continue in the future, expressing optimism about the programme's contribution to improving the economic conditions of disadvantaged families.
Livestock rearing is considered an important means of generating income for rural households, particularly those with limited financial resources. Through proper care and management, the cattle provided under such initiatives can help beneficiaries build sustainable sources of income and gradually become economically self-reliant.
Among those present during the inspection were Paribartan Director Abdur Razzak Raju, Deputy Director Mosammat Rokhsana Khatun and Programme Director Golam Mostafa, among others.
The visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the beneficiaries and review the impact of the foundation-supported livestock programme at the grassroots level.
