Mobile court conducts drive in Niguari, shuts down all kiln operationsRayhan Ahmed, Mymensingh Bureau: The district administration and the Department of Environment have demolished the chimneys and kilns of three illegal brick kilns in South Gafargaon of Mymensingh as part of a crackdown on environmental pollution and unauthorised brick production. All operations of the kilns have also been suspended.The joint drive was conducted on Tuesday (November 3) in the Niguari area of Gafargaon upazila by the Mymensingh District Administration and the district office of the Department of Environment.A mobile court, led by Lubna Ahmed Luna, Senior Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Deputy Commissioner's Office, took action against three illegal drum-chimney brick kilns named HSB, TLRB and MRB. During the drive, their chimneys and kilns, used for firing bricks, were demolished, and all activities, including brick production, were ordered to stop.Deputy Director of the Department of Environment's Mymensingh district office Mohammad Nur Kutube Alam Siddique, Assistant Director Mohammad Abu Sayeed, Inspector Mohammad Shahin Alam and other officials and staff members were present during the operation.Members of Mymensingh District Police and Ansar also assisted the team in maintaining law and order and ensuring overall security during the drive.Deputy Director Mohammad Nur Kutube Alam Siddique said such drives against illegal brick kilns across the district would continue to protect environmental balance, control air pollution and safeguard public health.According to সংশ্লিষ্ট stakeholders, illegal brick kilns operating in violation of environmental regulations pose serious risks to the local environment, agricultural land and public health. Smoke and harmful pollutants emitted from drum-chimney kilns, in particular, can adversely affect nearby communities and agricultural ecosystems.In this context, regular monitoring and consistent enforcement of the law are considered essential not only to shut down illegal kilns but also to prevent them from resuming operations.The administration's continued efforts to protect the environment are expected to play a positive role in curbing illegal brick kiln operations across Mymensingh.
