New committee led by Elias-Rinvi at ​​DUMCJAA elections

DU Correspondent: The Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni Association (DUMCJAA) has elected a new executive committee, with Elias Khan becoming President and Shahnaz Sharmeen Rinvi elected General Secretary.

Chief Election Commissioner S A M Mahfuzur Rahman officially announced the results after vote counting late Friday night (May 8). Election Commissioners Zahid Newaz Khan Jewel, Daulat Akhtar Mala, and Angur Nahar Monti were also present.

In the presidential race, Elias Khan secured 275 votes, defeating Dr. M Kamal Uddin Jasim, who received 126 votes, and Firoz Chowdhury, who got 14 votes.

Shahnaz Sharmeen Rinvi was elected General Secretary unopposed.

The elected Vice-Presidents are:

  • Tarikul Islam Khan Robin — 340 votes
  • Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan — 322 votes
  • Kabir Ahmed Khan — 289 votes
  • Sharmin Akhtar — 233 votes
  • Shahed Alam — 209 votes

The newly elected Joint General Secretaries are:

  • Shakil Hasan — 325 votes
  • Jesmin Jahan Moon — 265 votes
  • Mazedul Hasan Payel — 197 votes

Lincoln M A Lutfur Rahman Sarkar won the Assistant Treasurer post with 292 votes, defeating Mohammad Badiul Hasan, who received 99 votes.

Other elected office bearers include:

  • Tarek Hasan Nirvor as Welfare Secretary with 332 votes
  • Mohiuddin Murshid Mahi as Sports Secretary with 249 votes
  • Abul Kalam Azad as Executive Member with the highest 325 votes

Additional elected executive members are Hasan Ullah Khan (Rana Hasan), Md. Anwar Hossain Majumder, Sharmin Ifta Shams Tuli, Ali Asif Shawon, Israt Jahan Shova, Nazma Binte Alamgir, Shawkat M Obaid Hasan Rukun, Muhammad Rezaul Karim Shamim, and Towfiq Mahmud.

Meanwhile, candidates for several positions — including Cultural Secretary, Research and Seminar Secretary, Communication Secretary, Office Secretary, Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, Assistant Organizing Secretary, and Publication Secretary — were elected unopposed.

Following the announcement of the results, the newly elected committee members pledged to make the association more active, dynamic, and inclusive.
