Zakir Hossin, Pirojpur: A week-long special cleanliness campaign was officially launched in Pirojpur on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, under the theme “Keep Your Own Surroundings Clean, Build a Beautiful and Healthy Bangladesh.”
The campaign was inaugurated on Friday morning through the cleaning of a significant pond in the town, organized by the Pirojpur District Council. The program was formally opened by Principal Almgir Hossain, Administrator of the Pirojpur District Council.
Officials and employees of the District Council, local BNP leaders and activists, and people from various walks of life participated enthusiastically in the initiative.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Principal Almgir Hossain highlighted the social and public importance of the pond, saying that it is widely known among local residents as the “Pond Beside the Huzur’s House.” Located in the heart of the municipal area, the pond has long served the daily needs of many residents. However, years of neglect and lack of maintenance had rendered it nearly unusable.
“We have undertaken this cleaning initiative considering both environmental protection and public welfare,” he said.
He further emphasized that public awareness and collective efforts are essential in combating environmental pollution.
“Keeping our surroundings clean is a shared responsibility. We will gradually clean and restore all ponds under the jurisdiction of the District Council to ensure they remain pollution-free,” he added.
Local residents welcomed the initiative and expressed their appreciation to the District Council administration. They noted that once cleaned, the pond would benefit nearly 1,000 families in the surrounding area who depend on its water for various daily uses.
According to District Council sources, a total of 112 ponds under the council’s management will be cleaned and renovated in phases as part of the week-long campaign marking World Environment Day.
