Memorial Plaque of Commander Abdur Rouf Unveiled in Bhairab

Special Correspondent: A memorial plaque dedicated to Commander Abdur Rouf—one of the accused in the Agartala Conspiracy Case, a renowned writer, politician, social worker, valiant freedom fighter, and founder of the Population Services and Training Center (PSTC)—was formally unveiled in Bhairab.


The plaque, constructed under the initiative of the Commander Abdur Rouf Smriti Parishad, Bhairab, has been installed at a prominent three-road junction beside his residence near Bhairab Railway Station. The inauguration ceremony was attended by K. M. Mamun Rashid, Administrator of Bhairab Municipality and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), as the chief guest. He formally inaugurated the memorial plaque.


Speaking at the event, K. M. Mamun Rashid said, “Commander Abdur Rouf was a shining example of leadership dedicated to the spirit of the Liberation War, democratic values, and public welfare. This initiative to preserve his memory will inspire younger generations with patriotism and humanitarian values.”


The program was presided over by Gitali Hasan, distinguished writer, cultural personality, and daughter of Commander Abdur Rouf. She expressed gratitude to the people of Bhairab, saying that the love and respect shown to her father were deeply moving for the family. She added that her father remained committed throughout his life to the causes of justice, humanity, and national development.


Special guest Dr.Noor Mohammad, Executive Director of PSTC, said, “Commander Abdur Rouf was not only a valiant freedom fighter but also a remarkable advocate of human development, social justice, and progressive thought. His ideals continue to inspire our journey toward a better society.”


Freedom fighters, political and social leaders, academics, journalists, cultural activists, and people from all walks of life attended the ceremony. Speakers paid rich tributes to Commander Abdur Rouf and noted that his life and contributions would remain a lasting source  of inspiration for future generations.


The program concluded with floral tributes and collective remembrance.
