Md. Mizanur Rahman, Chapainawabganj: India's Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly attempted to push 20 people into Bangladesh through the Chouka border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. However, due to the firm stance of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), they were unable to enter Bangladeshi territory and are currently staying in the no-man’s land along the border.
According to BGB, members of the
Sukdebpur Camp under the 119th BSF Battalion attempted to force the group
across the border through the area adjacent to border pillar 177/2-R late on
Friday night (June 19).
The matter was confirmed on Saturday
morning by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Commanding
Officer of BGB-59 Battalion. He stated that the group consists of 20
individuals, including five men, eleven women, and four children.
He further said that upon receiving
information, BGB personnel immediately rushed to the spot and took position
along the border, preventing the group from entering Bangladesh. As a result,
they have been compelled to remain in the no-man’s land under the open sky.
A flag meeting between BGB and BSF
was held at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, but no effective resolution was
reached.
Meanwhile, tensions have risen in
the border area as local residents gathered near the scene. Border forces from
both countries remain on alert.
The BGB commanding officer said,
“They are being requested to return to their own country. If they refuse to do
so, necessary measures will be taken in accordance with international border
laws and established procedures.”
