Zakir Hossin, Pirojpur: The Pirojpur District Council on Wednesday launched a month-long cleanliness and tree plantation campaign aimed at improving public health and creating a cleaner, greener environment, while paying tribute to the July fighters.
The programme,
organised by the District Council with assistance from the Pirojpur
Municipality, was inaugurated at Ukilpara-Amalapara in the municipal area.
District Council
Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain inaugurated the campaign in the
presence of Chief Executive Officer Mahmudur Rahman Mamun, local residents,
representatives of social organisations and other guests.
The campaign is being
carried out under the slogan: "Keep my surroundings clean to stay
protected from dengue, measles, chikungunya and other diseases."
According to the
organisers, the month-long programme includes neighbourhood clean-up drives,
tree plantation, sapling distribution, garbage van distribution and awareness
activities on environmental protection and public health across different parts
of the district.
Addressing the
inaugural programme, Alamgir Hossain said maintaining a clean environment is a
collective responsibility requiring active public participation alongside
government initiatives.
He urged residents to
keep their homes and surroundings free of stagnant water and waste to help
prevent mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue.
He also called for
turning cleanliness and tree plantation into a social movement to build a
healthier and more liveable Pirojpur, adding that the District Council would
continue such public welfare programmes inspired by the spirit of the July
fighters.
Members of local
volunteer groups, including Positive Pirojpur and Eminent Boys Pirojpur, took
part in the clean-up and tree plantation activities.
Local residents
welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely effort to strengthen
environmental awareness and improve public health in the district.
