Desk Report: Bangladesh Honda Private Limited (BHL) has expanded its global export footprint by shipping its locally manufactured Honda NX200 motorcycle to Mexico, marking another milestone for Bangladesh's growing manufacturing and export sector.The latest export comes after the company's successful entry into the Guatemalan market and signals increasing international confidence in motorcycles produced in Bangladesh.Industry insiders say the move highlights the country's improving industrial capacity and reinforces Bangladesh's emergence as a competitive manufacturing hub capable of meeting international quality standards.BHL is a joint venture between the state-owned Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), under the Ministry of Industries, and Japan's Honda Motor Co., Ltd.The export ceremony was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (Secretary Status) Dr. Md. Sakirul Islam Khan as the chief guest, while Gazaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ummay Hafsa Nadia was present as the guest of honour.Speaking at the event, Dr. Sakirul Islam Khan said the government remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment that encourages manufacturing, exports and investment.He described the export of the Honda NX200 to Mexico as a significant achievement that would help diversify Bangladesh's export basket, generate employment and enhance the country's international reputation."The government will continue supporting initiatives that strengthen Bangladesh's industrial competitiveness and expand export opportunities," he said.Bangladesh Honda Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Susumu Morisawa said the expansion into Mexico reflects the company's steady progress in production capability, quality assurance and manufacturing excellence.He said the successful exports to Guatemala and now Mexico demonstrate that motorcycles manufactured in Bangladesh can meet Honda's strict global standards.According to Morisawa, the initiative will contribute to Bangladesh's economy by increasing export diversification while supporting Honda's long-term commitment to developing the country's manufacturing sector.He also said the company would continue to increase local sourcing, improve production competitiveness and explore additional overseas markets.Chief Marketing Officer Shah Muhammad Ashequr Rahman described the export as a proud moment for both Honda and Bangladesh.He said the achievement showcases Bangladesh's growing manufacturing capability and strengthens the country's prospects of becoming a competitive motorcycle production and export base.While the domestic market remains BHL's primary focus, he said exports would help accelerate industrial development, technology transfer, localization and employment generation.Industry observers believe Bangladesh's motorcycle sector has witnessed significant progress over the past decade through increased investment, higher local value addition and improved production standards.The export of the Honda NX200 to Mexico is also seen as part of Honda's global manufacturing strategy, which increasingly utilizes production facilities in different countries to serve international markets more efficiently.BHL said it plans to further improve production efficiency, expand localization and explore new export destinations in line with Honda's global vision of delivering quality mobility products worldwide.The company also acknowledged the support of the Government of Bangladesh, the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the Duty Exemption and Drawback Office (DEDO), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), customs authorities, banking partners, suppliers and dealers for helping strengthen Bangladesh's position as a reliable source of high-quality motorcycles for global markets.With exports now reaching both Guatemala and Mexico, industry experts say Bangladesh's motorcycle manufacturing sector is gradually carving out a place in the international market, offering new opportunities for export earnings, industrial growth and employment.
